The Horizontal Act "University of the Aegean Digital Library" is incorporated as follows:
- Priority Axis "02. ICT and Improving Quality of Life" of the Sectoral Operational Programme "04. Digital Convergence " percentage 82.35%
- Priority Axis "06. Digital Convergence & Entrepreneurship South Aegean Region" Regional Operational Programme" 11. Crete and the Aegean Islands" percentage 17.65% The Act is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Project goals:
- Creation of an Institutional Repository
- Upgrading University of the Aegean Library Portal to provide new services and collaborate with other Information Systems and Horizontal Action subprojects applications
- Creation of a Current Research Information System (CRIS)
- Creation of a Repository and Documentation Service for geographical and socio-economic data
- Creation of the service infrastructure for the preservation of digital content
- Expansion of the applicationof electronic identification via RFID technology
- Upgrading the User Support Office for the new services developed
Project analysis:
The act "University of the Aegean Digital Library" goals are to:
a) upgrade the Gray literature Repository Service of the Library to a Institutional Repository by designing and developing new services (personalized services, Web 2.0 services) as well as by creating the infrastructure necessary to deposit other types of media, like audio-visuals, rare books, research reports;
b) enrich the repository by depositing digitized and digital items of the aforementioned types, mostly by collecting, digitizing, and retroactively depositing rare items from the Library Collection;
c) upgrade the Library Portal so to provide WEB 2.0 services and support the development of a metasearch engine for sub-projects 5 and 4 of the Horizontal Action of Academic Libraries;
d) create necessary measures so that Library digital content can be conserved;
e) install and integrate a Current Research Information System (CRIS) on the Library IT infrastructure,
f) expand the applied electronic identification & management by radio frequency (RFID - Radio Frequency Identification) technology in the Rhodes & Samos Library Branches of the University of the Aegean; and to
g) create a repository & documentation Service for geographical & socioeconomic data.
Points (a) to (e) will be implemented - through customization – thus enabling new features of existing services in the Library software platforms. The other points will be implemented either through the development of new software either from procuring existing software that support open standards and protocols, ensuring interoperability by creating web services and the infrastructure to work in a virtual / digitized environment
